Reading, counting, and extra outside time!

The past week has been a productive one. The students learned about what independent reading is and what it looks and sounds like in the classroom. You can see I the pictures below how they stay in one spot, get started right away, read the whole time, and read quietly. They also learned about partner reading and tried it out. It is the same as independent reading, except with someone and sitting right next to them (elbow, elbow, knee, knee!). This class has learned how to do each type reading quickly and quite well!

You can also see some pictures of the students showing off their counting skills as they line counters up and touch each counter. They have been practicing "whisper counting". Each student counts quietly or even "in their head" so that one persons counting doesn't confuse another's.

Finally, there are some wonderful pictures from some extra outside play time that kindergarten earned this week. While I had a substitute in for me earlier in the week, the students were helpful, kind, and hardworking. Of course the next day we had to celebrate their amazing behavior and the beautiful weather by going outside for some extra play time!
